My Subjects


This is my grade 8 2011 ePortfolio. In it is work from all of the subjects I'm in. Throughout the year I have added items for each subject. A couple of things that I am good at are making sure my work is neat and legible. I also make sure that my work makes sense. I need to stop procrastinating and work harder. My goal for the next 6 weeks is to stop procrastinating and not leave my work to the last minute.

Math

Term 1 Reflection


I feel Term 1 was a great term, I received a mark of 89. We learned many things this term including ratios, rates, proportion, perfect squares, square numbers, right triangles, and the Pythagoras therom. Going into the unit on Pythagoras, I had heard of the Pythagoras theory, but I didn’t know how to do it. By the end of the unit I knew how to use it and found it, in a way, fun to use the formula to solve problems and find the hypotenuse, or the legs of triangles. I think my favourite part of Term 1 was making a remake of a Sesame Street Video, I got to work with my friends and change the words to Elmo’s “Elmo’s Song” to make the words go along with ratio, rate, and proportion. I think I did a good job doing my math work this term, though sometimes I didn’t finish all of the textbook work. My goal for Term 2 is to finish all the textbook homework we are given so I get more practice with each unit we learn. I also want to participate more in commenting on my classmates scribe posts. Overall I hope to achieve better marks in Term 2 and learn more new things in math.

Term 2 Reflection

In Term 2 we learned about percents, surface area, and volume. I feel I did well on the unit about volume. I liked this unit because I understood the formulas very well and found it simple to fill in the numbers and calculate the answer. I got great marks on my quizzes and tests for volume. In Term 2 I didn’t like some of the tests/quizzes we had for surface area. I would forget to put ‘TSA’ and I would get half marks off. I also didn’t like drawing nets for the prisms because sometimes I would get confused and draw them the wrong way. My goal for next term is to get the textbook work done so I get more practice on each unit we do.

Integers

On the integer test I think I didn't do very well for my capability. I made some mistakes because I didn't do the subtraction questions carefully and didn't fully understand how to do them. I should have practiced them more before the test. For example: -10 + (-12) - 9 = -31 but I got 13.

TASK: What was I asked to do for this assignment?
I was required to create a definition card for the term simile, using my own example to assist in understanding the term.

INTENT: Why am I completing this assignment?
There are a few reasons why I completed this assignment. First, this assignment helped me to create a visual comprehension of what a simile is. Also it helped me to develop examples of similes by creating an illustration. Finally, this assignment helped me to improve my skill for making definition cards.

CRITERIA: How do I know what I needed to do to be successful in completing this assignment?
  • neatly write out the definition of simile and create an example of what a simile is used for and what it is
  • neatly draw an illustration representing the example of the simile
  • neatly coloured with border that has a creative design that coincides with the definition/term

There are a few reasons why I completed this assignment. First, this assignment helped me to visually comprehend what a ziggurat in ancient Mesopotamia looked like. Also this assignment helped me to create a visual representation of the definition I selected. Finally, this assignment helped to prepare me for the unit test by serving as a study guide of an ancient Mesopotamian ziggurat.

2 Minutes to Make a Difference



My topic is Lack of Education for Girls in Africa.
